European Stonemasonry Festival

<<< back to Gallery

€50,000 worth of stone was carved by 25 European stonemasons during a privately funded and organised festival in Schwerin, North Germany in 2002. The finished pieces were then donated to the Frauenkirche in Dresden, which was largely destroyed during the Second World War and entirely rebuilt between 1994 and 2005.

Stonemasons from all over Germany, France, England and even the Sagrada Familia in Spain gathered in the home town of Carvero’s director Andre Schuberth for over a week. The results took the form of some stunning contributions to this unique charitable consignment. The event was organised in conjunction with the French association Compagnons Passants Tailleurs de Pierre.

Two years later, the stonemasons visited the building site of the church in Eastern Germany to see their pieces in situ.
